Two Methods to Storyboard

There are many ways to storyboard but there are two that standout the most. One is more focused visually and contains bigger boxes for the scene and the other is more textually based based and uses smaller boxes.

Method 1

-Most of the information is in the frame

-Draw the entire scene

-Draw in the lighting of the scene

-Write/label on the frame itself to signify what is being shown.

-Draw boxes within the storyboard frame to represent camera movement and change in audience view.

-Brief description under the frame stating what happened in the scene

-Include what sound and background noise would be used

Method 2

-A lot of notes is written on the side of the box.

-Start with drawing first shot of scene.

-Next to the drawing box include bullet points that describe the action and setting of the frame

-Draw the second shot in the next frame

-Label the storyboard boxes to show if they are in the same edit

-Continue textualizing what camera movements were used to get from one shot to the other

-Use key terminology on what lighting, camera shots, and soundtrack are being used

-Show what edits are being used by personally made symbols or write it out on the side.

-To show depth of field by labeling and crosshatching subject or background

-Can show lighting by drawing which way the light is pointing towards

The main point of a storyboard is too see what may be needed or not needed during the filming process. Key takeaways when creating s storyboard is to illustrate whether drawing or describing the mise en scene, camerawork, editing, and sound.
